Infrared satellite images for Europe
The infrared channels of Meteosat are sensitive to the temperature of the objects and allow to detect clouds day and night. The clouds are indeed colder than the cloud free surface. In the infrared imagery the clouds appear as bright as they are cold and are then located higher in the atmosphere.
