About the RMI

What does the RMI do?

The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI) is a federal scientific institute that provides meteorological services and does research about weather and climate.

What kind of weather is expected tomorrow?

The RMI communicates the weather forecast to the public and the authorities. We will warn you when weather might cause damage in Belgium, for example due to thunder storms, heat waves or storms.

Your house or company has been damaged?

Then you can ask for an official certificate for the insurance company. Furthermore, we also deliver climatological information to the disaster fund, researchers, universities, companies and to whoever asks for it.

You wonder about the hole in the ozone layer?

We do too! We perform scientific research about ozone layer, but also about the climate, meteorological satellites and radars and numerical weather prediction for example.

The RMI counts in total about 180 people, working at the site in Uccle and in Dourbes. Moreover, 220 voluntary observers inform us daily of their observations.

Many thanks to these passionate and dedicated people!
